Q. Why do you want to study the social and cultural history of modern Japan right now? #HIEA115

A. In high school I was interested in Japanese and decided to take a Japanese course at a local community college. After that I have continued taking classes through college and am still taking them now. I really like the language, and I think the culture behind it and the culture in general is very interesting, especially since it differs so much from the American culture I’ve grown up in. Right now I am really interested in how the current Japanese culture came to be and how it was formed in the first place, I think is compelling to see how the trends have changed and compare it even to American culture. I am also a Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience major and love learning about why people act the way they do, taking a historic/cultural lens, I think will reveal a whole different type of understanding different types of people!
