I like your point about history being a way to open up discussion! I think that is really accurate -- the best way we can understand history isn't by making a list of truths, but by taking what has been passed down to us and understanding it to the best of our abilities. As much as we may want to know exactly how a person or people felt and acted, there is way too much gray space to come to concrete conclusions without hurting our own integrity and misunderstanding the past.
